Word Bitch of the Night

When in Microsoft Word I select some text and then select a style format, I'd really appreciate it if it actually applied the style. It seems to think that changing the font information to "strong+Arial", which does indeed match the style I'm trying to apply), but doesn't actually put the style name in the style box is close enough. Having to clear formatting for some text (not all of course, seems random as usual) before I can apply the style and have it called the name of the style seems really stupid to me right now.
