Mac Switcher.... Kinda

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)

So I'm now a mac user..... kinda. Only in the work sense though. At the office Christmas party I asked the boss if when the next new hire is in the office they could get my current work laptop (an Acer somethingorother) and I could get a new low end Macbook. Mostly I spend my workday in either a browser or an SSH session, and both of those are easily available on a mac (some would argue they are more available with the build-on-BSD thing).

Anyway, so Friday the new 2.2G MacBook Pro came in. My boss apparently loves me. Or it has something to do with the whole "standardized on MacBook Pro" thing he's got going. Either way, I'm in heaven.

So there are both good things and bad things. Read on for more.

Looks like the season (and year) is almost over. Sadly my requests for time off went unanswered, so I only got the three stat holidays off (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day), and things have been pretty crazy. This morning I went out with my brother in law to hit up the boxing day sales. I realized (again, I'm sure I had this same thought at this same time last year) that for boxing day sales you need to either a) get up at 5am and go and stand in line to get one of the super deals (the $399 laptop that is $600 off (or claims to be anyway, I have another theory on that)) that sell out three minutes after the store opens, or b) you go the day after boxing day when the stores aren't packed and the rest of the deals (100 pack of DVDs for example) are still there.

Outside of shopping, had a fantastic Christmas dinner over at mom and dad's last night with the in-laws (which is doubly good because that's only one huge massive turkey filled dinner to go to, not two or three). Lots of home baking, sweet things, plus another triumphant turkey success.

Tomorrow and Friday it's back to work, then off next Tuesday again. I also get the privilege of being on call for new years eve and new years day (wee), but such is life....

Anyway,to any friends and family reading this, I hope you had a great Christmas season with friends and family and wish you all the best in 2008!

Strobist on Light Painting

Very cool video over at strobist on light painting and the creation of a very cool and imaginative shot. The video goes through how each element was photographed and then composited together.

Grabbed on a whim, and completely expecting something like his "unique" rendition of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" or "Rocket Man", I'm honestly and completely shocked that William Shatner's music CD Has Been is actually really good.

First Snow 2007

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)

Yesterday I woke up to the light on the ceiling of the bedroom being a bit brighter and dare I say, whiter, than I'm used to first thing on a lazy Saturday morning. Turns out the white stuff had started falling as predicted. It was on and off for the rest of the day, and when I went to bed last night there was maybe two inches of the stuff on the hood of my car. The weather predicted snow for Sunday (today) so I assumed I'd wake up to the standard "day after snow" scenerio of the lower mainland where the rain has washed it all away and there's nothing bug sludge and gray ickyness left.

Not so. This morning it's still coming down, thought not big flakes, and there doesn't seem to be a full night's snowfall on the ground (maybe four or five inches if that), but it's still here. So I predict today will be another lazy day... I've already started sitting here on the couch with my laptop and a bevy of cats (Corny beside me, Rex on the arm of the couch, Zoon on the back of the couch). I figure I'll take my queues from them!
