Ex-coworker, crazy man, and fellow ex-long haired hippy freak Fozbaca got married yesterday! Huge congrats to him and Alice!

OMG I have so had this conversation more than a few times with other geeks... normally it goes something like this:

• Yea, well back in my day we didn't have no steeking IDE, we used EMACS and were happy with it!


• Oh yea, well back in my day we had VIM


• Vim!? Luxury! We had VI and we loved it!


• VI? Why back in my day we had ed!


• Ed? Luxury! I used to use 'cat' and we were happy.
  [This is where my real life deviates from the comic]
  


• Cat?! My god man you lived such a pampered life, I used to write the binary code directly to disk with 'echo'.


• Echo! We used to use binary


• BINARY! You had both one's and zeros? Luxury! We only had zeros and we liked it!


• You had zeros! We used to have to use the magnetic pull of the moon to manipulate bits on the hard drive.


• You had a hard drive!?!?!


• [... and so on....]

I do have to say that I love XKCD! They have some good stuff in the forums as well.

Oh, and just for my coworker Len..... "PICO!" (in reference to 'nano' in the comic).

Just a random shout out to Joanna Rees and her photography, who is an old classmate from high school who I (re-)discovered through Facebook. Joanna and I weren't in the same circles back then, however same as what happened to another old friend of mine, Jason, she's into photography. This is now another person that I get to live semi-vicariously through, as she's good enough to be doing work for magazines, and from the looks of it, it's very good. Funny how things go full circle in life eh?

Damn you facebook and your addictive qualities!

Well tonight was cool, even though the day was busy (got wood out of back yard, helped move baseboards, did some christmas shopping). Iambe and Engel called around 5 and said they were back in town! Of course my first reaction was "come over come over!" with complete disregard for their jet-laggedness or any other plans they might have. They obliged and appeared a bit later, in Tig and K's car (who didn't mention they were appearing in the lower mainland today either!). So we showed them the house, they fawned over the cats (all still here after they left) and we ended up going out for a bite and catching up. Man it was good to see them again! After dinner extra plans of movie or DVD or showing the (obviously deprived) Engel Doom 3 and Half Life 2, neither of which he claims to have experienced yet were put behind the fact that my dear friends from the states were dead tired. Can't wait to get together again.

BTW, thanks for the invite to the LOTR Day Michael, but I didn't make it :( Next time perhaps.

Wow, awsome to see a post on her wedding site to say that she's a married woman now! Huge congrats to ScoobyD and Jaroc and I can't wait for the party (the one that doesn't cost thousands in airfare to get to :)

Now I can finally say "my friend Darren, the author". Don't believe me, look closer. Way cool dude!

Fred and Nicole have entered the empty and worthless world of the phenomenon called "blogging". Yay! Fred is of course, the driving force behind the mass of TDI freaks over at TDIClub.com and keeping me in hardware and bandwidth.

My good buddy Engel, though he may be on the other side of the continent right now, is having a birthday today. My best wishes for the best day my friend. Happy Birthday! Having your wife come home the day before (or day before the day before) your birthday must be one of those scary good karma things huh? :)
