Not An Axe-Murderer

A week or so ago I noticed that Leonard from random($foo) was coming up to Vancouver for a week long visit. I had talked to him before about some ditital photo stuff and figured that it’d be cool to meet up. So after a flurry of emails trying to figure things out, I met up with him and Ritchie at the Jiro restaurant on east broadway. A bunch of other folks came along and it was all good.

I ate more sushi than I thought possible.

I think in total I eat about a full tuna, three salmon, a tree full of gyoza, and at least 80 liters of green tea. It was a $20 all you can eat deal, which is a bit pricey, but well worth it. Most all you can eat places have restrictions like no sashimi, or all the tempura you want as long as it’s the veggie stuff (no prawns!). Not so at this place. We started out with a plate of tuna and salmon sashimi, followed by rolls, miso soup, sonomono salad, gyoza, more rolls, followed by …. well, name a sushi and it was there. I got to try lots of new things because I didn’t have to worry about the whole “I don’t want to spend $3 on something that I might hate” thing. It was all good. I think we probably eat about $50 of sushi (or more) individually, so $20 was a good deal. If you do go there, just remember to not eat for a couple of days before so you have room for it all!

We rolled (in the “we can’t walk properly anymore” manner) out of there a couple of hours later and hit English Bay for some famous ice cream, then hung out on the beach geeking.

A few years ago I met up with a total stranger travelling from Austrailia from the Internet called StateRail. He and I have been friends since and I’m glad that I took the chance to meet him. It also gave me the courage to meet new potential axe-murderers from the Internet.

Anyway, got home safe, had a tiny breakfast this morning as I still was (am) full from last night. I doubt I’ll have to eat this week.
