I found an interesting post over in the dpreview forums about fill flash with the *ist-d. Honestly I’m a bit afraid of flash. The pics I do take with it (the built in flash is all I have) are generally the type that people use as examples of why not to use flash. Overly white faces, no shadows, background still in darkness… Ok for snapshots of course, but for “real” pictures, no go.
Basically what the post suggests is to set the camera to manual mode, get the expoure and set half a stop over, then use the +/- button to set -1.5ev. This will (in theory) give you the benefit of the flash but not have an overly “bright” image. I took some test shots using this and it did seem to done it down a bit, but I still want to play around a bit.
