Can I Have the Last 24 Hours Back Please?

I have to say last night was the worst night I’ve had in a long time, followed by probably the most useless day I’ve had in a long time. Basically 99% of the day yesterday was useless. I spent most of the morning babysitting a system that we had recently installed and was going into training. They had everything there and going and I guess something crashed the night before, rendering the system inaccessible (though I have to add that this was an IIS problem, the actual software we installed was fine) right in front of the superintendant or some similarly high up muckity-muck. This didn’t put us off on a good foot with these folks. Then yesterday morning was basically a case of bad luck. First it was a database not defined in the new system. Then the connector that we use to communicate from the application server to the backend database on the alpha broke. Then the alpha started running out of resources. All this of course as the principles (who I’m sure didn’t want to change their old ways anyway) were in training. So every 10 minutes or so I’d get a call from their HR person saying that it’s down again, and the principles are yelling at me. I’d turn around to one of our programmers and pass him on the error message, he’d race to fix, I’d call to tell the HR person to say it’s fixed, and ten minutes later we start all over again. Eventually things got sorted out though.

Then the afternoon was sucky as well. We had some odd bug affecting one school district, so one of the programmers wrote a fix, and told me how to update. Well go figure, it didn’t go smoothly, and I ended up playing intermediary between another pissed off school board guy wondering when this is fixed or if they’d have to shut down the system and our people, trying to figure out how to fix it and explain why the changes we needed to make were necissary.

Ugh.

So it was really nice to come home. Firefly had the Enery Inspector dude out so we could get some money back when we fix all the leaks in the house, had an awesome stew for dinner, and it was all nice. I resisted having tea late in the evening as well and dozed off on the couch for a few minutes around 8. Got up and thought that I should go to bed then, but thought nah, I’ll sleep like a baby tonight anyway when I go to bed no later than 10 (a plan I’ve had for the entire week, but haven’t actually done yet). So 10 rolls around and I head to bed.

Can’t sleep, can’t sleep, can’t sleep. I’m tired, but for whatever reason my brain won’t let me go to bed. I think I slept a bit but would be fully concious when Firefly looked over to me.

“What?”
“You’re snoring”
“I can’t be snoring, I’m not even asleep. If I was asleep I wouldn’t be so lucid.”

Seems I was sawing logs pretty good… felt like I had a hunk of mucus right in the back of my throat or something. Anyway, I was still perfectly awake (or came to perfect awakeness immediately) when Firefly decided that the couch would be better for her. No idea what time it was, but I know I just lay awake until 11 or 11:30 or so, so this was probably midnight or 1.

Then came the dreams. I don’t remember much of course, but one involved me running around an underground parking and being jumped out at by some people, making me sit bolt upright in bed. The cats weren’t much help either, Zoon kept on deciding to do some cuddling, and three of four times I’d be woken up by little claws on my arm telling me to lift up the covers so she could sleep curled up beside me.

Woke up at 6 am, then 6:30, then 7 with the alarm and then finally got out of bed after one hit of the snooze bar. My neck is sore, I’m tired, and I see in my email that there were more problems with the school district system that I was hoping would be dealt with at the end of work yesterday. I’m going to grab my lunch, get my coffee from Tim Hortons, and hope the day goes better. In any case it’s a Friday right?
