Went out and saw my first movie in ages last Friday. Very nifty movie, and I think it stood relatively well on it’s own if you weren’t a fan of the Firefly series. Obviously you get a better idea of what is going on, however I’ve only seen one or two Firefly episodes, and enjoyed things just fine. The writing was absolutely top notch, as per just about any Joss Whedon endevour. The space battle scenes were nicely done visually, as were the sets and props. Another blogger commented that the sets were not digital so they actually looked “used” instead of the clean look that’s more and more prevelant in sci-fi shows these days.
The movie still felt a little like a really long and really well done episode though. I’m not sure if this is due to the fact that it’s another movie made from a TV series. Still, all in all I’d give it thumbs up and say go and see it.
