A lawnmower, taken from he front at a low angle

New Lawnmower

Yesterday, like a ghost in the night, a big (but not huge) box arrived at the front door. After two days of delays my precious lawnmower arrived! Assembly was pretty easy, just screw the handle on and charge (3/4 already charged) the battery (USB-C).

Here the sexy beast is.

It was a lot smaller than I thought, and lighter. Which makes sense because it doesn’t have a gas engine attached, and it’s mostly plastic.

Banana for scale.

Yesterday I was out right after work to go see Ring of Fire – a Johnny Cash musical, so I couldn’t try it out, but I was able to tonight.

So….

A quick review.

Honestly? Disappointing.

The power on it is low enough that if I were to run over my foot, I feel like it’d be hurt, but not missing. With a gas mower I’d just resign myself that I’d be missing the foot. The power was low enough that when I went over clumps of grass it just stalled out. I had to set the blade height to its maximum just to be able to complete the lawn. With the gas mower I had I had it would barrel right through and bite into the dirt if it had to, no issues.

I also have a back yard that’s basically a jungle, and I know that even a gas mower isn’t going to fix it, but it will do damage to it.

So I’m not sure what to do. Technically speaking, it did the job I got it for, the grass at the front of the house isn’t the worst on the block. But it was so…. disappointing feeling. It feels like it did it’s able to do the job I need it for but juuuuust barely.

Honestly I feel like I should just take it back and go to Marketplace or Craigslist and just get someone’s cast off gas one. But that’s a pain in the ass.
