Brrrr-rowr-rrrr!

Well, I wish I could write something more elequant, but apparently my little kitten has gone into heat for the first time. As she’s an indoor cat, living with two neutered male cats we haven’t bothered to spay her (yet). Came home after dinner at the folks to a very talkative kitten, far more so than usual. I thought at first she was just really pissed off we didn’t let her out into the hall like she wanted, but no.

She’s wandering around talking in that “brrrrrr-row” noise she makes, getting herself all hunkered down to the ground and rolling around and nuzzling anything around her with her nose (hands, walls, other cats). I don’t think she quite understands what is going on, and Firefly refuses to have a “girl to girl” talk with her to explain the facts of life. The boys don’t seem to have much of a clue as to what is going on either, they just sort of lounge around and look at her, or jump down from their perches when she goes into a particularily loud/long barrage of talking. Apparently this can last from days to months. Wonder how I will sleep tonight.

Maybe we should let her loose, perhaps we’ll end up with some nice little grey kittens! Nah, probably not such a good idea, as we’re only supposed to have one cat here in the first place.

  1. The boys don’t seem to interested, they are doing their normal, take a nap before a long day’s lounging thing. I’m sure she’d love to get some action going, but they don’t seem all that keen on gettin’ kinky.

  2. My 5 month old male was starting to hump his sister ….Ewwwww!!!…. we got them both “fixed”… they aren’t talking to us yet.

  3. Dude, even though your males are fixed, it is ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that they’ll have sex with your cat in heat. I’ve seen it happen. They’ll do it to SHUT HER THE HELL UP.
The cat I was living with was in heat for about a week or two, and the instant she was done, my roomie got her fixed.
    Fun stuff. πŸ˜‰

That’s for not having your baby spayed πŸ˜‰
Seroiusly, there are tons and tons of health risks if you don’t have your cat spayed, besides being preggers. She can get a life threatening infection in her utereus that can cause it to fill with pus… and then explode. It’s called epyometra iirc, and it’s a big danger to an unspayed cat.
Not to mention if you get her spayed, she’ll have less of a risk of ovarian, uterian, and mammary cancers. (usually if you spay before the first heat cycle, but it does decrease even after the first cycle I believe)
So as soon as her cycle ends, I’d suggest calling your vet and making an appointment. Not just for her health, but for your ears πŸ˜‰

Cats have been living on this earth for thousands of years without being fixed. They get ailments just like us as they get older etc.
The main reason to get your cat fixed is to control the kitten population. Many kittens in shelters end up being put to sleep because there werent enough pet owners interested.
