More on Massive Storage

I’ve been thinking more and more about the massive file storage I pondered before, even though my idea of 3x320Gig in a RAID5 (640G) is far short of others idea of massive. For example, there’s a good story on slashdot on Building a Massive Single Volume Storage Solution. This guy is looking for a petabyte, […]

My Collection of old Hard Drives

I finally got around to competing building that spare computer I have been talking about. In the process I discovered I don’t have a lot of spare decent sized hard drives (my largest is a 10 Gig that I inherited from work (legitimately, I swear!)). I did discover though that I have a lot of

Fun with Burn In Tests

I’ve been meaning to put together another computer for a while now to play with some of the windows technology that I haven’t played with (active directory, exchange, project server, IIS, sql server, etc). Last weekend I cobbled together a xp1700 system from spare parts and assembled it on the desk. Ran an install and….

Another IE Exploit

IE, not satisfied with Firefox getting press for a new exploit, decided to let loose with one of their own. Great job, keep on keeping up! Dell Out of the Box Experience

I guess I’d have to say my first Dell pizza box server ‘out of the box’ experience wasn’t all terrible. $notmyboss comes by and and asks me how long it’d take to unpack and setup remote desktop access to a Dell server. By this of course he means “unpack and setup remote desktop access to

RAID + EVMS Assistance Please

Ok, here’s the situation. I’ve got a big-ass file server that currently is running 3x80G in RAID5 and 2x120G in RAID1. Lately I’ve been moving files around, symlinking between the /shared partion, the /mp3 partition and so on. Not fun, and a bit of (no, make that a lot of) a pain in the ass.
